The earring might have sentimental value to the wearer, or simply puzzle them because something in their home has been lost, even for a short length of time. An odd earring might show up underneath the car seat, or in a separate jewelry box but while it is missing, it is a very big cause for concern. If the earring contains a precious jewel such a diamond of great value, homeowners might be faced with filing a claim with their insurance company for the loss. It is at this point that all facts surrounding its loss will have to be remembered in great detail. People that have only one earring to show their insurance company, may only be given money to replace a single earring.
Some people choose to wear only one earring in their each to stand out and be different from the crowd. Other fashion conscious individuals may choose to wear one earring in their lower lobe, and place an entirely different one in the hole just above the hole where the larger earring is worn. Layering the earring choices gives a more enhanced fashion statement than a set of earrings that match, and are placed in both ears at the same time.
People use the sole earring from a set to ornament other body piercing locations, and in particular, choose to ornament their belly button piercing with the odd earring. This allows the wearer to at least use the earring for a useful purpose, even if it was not designed for this particular area of the body.
An earring can hold a large amount of gold, and people use all of the odd earring parts in their collection to make other pieces of fine jewelry. Through the melting of the gold, bracelets and necklaces can be custom made in a fashion design that is totally unique. The person can also use the stones in some of these odd earring pieces to accent their new customized piece of jewelry.
An earring might fall out because the back was not put on properly. If the earring is not securely fastened, the backing may simply fall off. Some people mistakenly push their earring backing on in haste not realizing that it has threaded through half of the tightening mechanism in the earring back, thus causing it to not to follow the proper path that the earring back hole is fashioned for.
